In a swift move Samford has named former Kentucky standout Scott Padgett as their next head coach replacing Bennie Seltzer at the Alabama based school.
Padgett was part of Kentucky's 1998 NCAA Championship team under Rick Pitino and was a first round selection of the Utah Jazz in 1999. He would play in the NBA until 2007 where he suited up for the Jazz, Rockets, Nets, and Grizzlies. He then spent a year as an assistant at Kentucky before learning under Steve Masiello at Manhattan from 2010 to 2012 before coming to Samford.
In a release from the school Padgett said:
"I'm very excited to have the opportunity to be the head coach at Samford University and to coach these outstanding young men. This program is going to be all about our players; former, current and future. It's going to be about promoting the mission of this great university and helping these young men in their academic, athletic and spiritual growth."
