Landry Shamet Commits to Shockers

The Rivals 2015 4-star recruit bypassed offers from BCS conference teams to commit to WSU, adding a dangerous player to the Shockers' stable of guards.

The recruiting prowess that Greg Marshall possesses has never been in doubt, but he may have just landed the most heralded recruit of his career. Landry Shamet, a 6-4 guard from Park Hill HS in Kansas City, MO, has committed to Wichita State as a 4-Star recruit according to Rivals, and the 87th best recruit for 2015.

Shamet had visited campus to watch the Shockers in Missouri Valley play last season, but after an official campus visit on Friday, August 29, he had no problem giving a verbal commitment to play in Wichita.

Although it's not surprising that a team that went undefeated in regular season play last year could land a prize recruit, he was widely recruited and still had visits scheduled with Kansas State, Colorado, and Illinois. Landry also had offers from the likes of Memphis, Creighton, and Minnesota.

While Shamet's rating may somewhat be a byproduct of those who recruited him - considering he wasn't in the Rivals150 until after he received offers from WSU and Colorado - his rise to the #87 recruit in the nation is entirely warranted considering his 20.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg, and 3.4 apg for a middling Park Hill team that went 14-14 on the season.

When Shamet starts play with the 2015 Shockers, he will be entering a crowded backcourt with Fred VanVleet, last year's MVC Player of the Year, and Ron Baker.
