Long Beach State (5-5) vs Pepperdine (4-4) : 7 p.m.
Losers of five of the last seven games, Long Beach State continues on the road to take on Pepperdine tonight.
Traveling from "The Beach" to "The Bu" (Malibu, CA) LB State can not afford to drop another game. Building some type of consistency is the goal for the 49ers.
Coming off the UCLA 83-76 loss, LB State’s good news came on Monday when it received news that Nick Faust was named the Big West Player of the Week. Faust against UCLA dropped 24 points, over the course of last week Faust put up impressive numbers in four games and averaged 21.8 points, five rebounds, two steals, two assist as he shot over 50 percent.
Faust a Maryland transfer since joining the 49ers has scored double figures in all of his games.
Currently the Waves lead the all-time series, 16-8. Pepperdine dominated this beach community rivalry during the early 2000s, when it won eight straight against the 49ers. LB State is now playing better in the series, since 2009, it's grabbed three of the last four.
Pepperdine likes to rely on junior guard/forward Lamond Murray Jr, who has scored 20 points in three games this year. Murray who leads the Waves in scoring (15.0 ppg) scored 21 points in last Saturday’s victory over Big West team Cal-State Northridge.
The risk for LB State is all its losses have come on the road and for Pepperdine it's won both home games this year. Both teams search to get above .500 tonight.
