Things haven't exactly been clicking for Drexel this season. Injuries have caused depth issues, and even at full strength, the Dragons have underperformed even modest expectations.
So if you had to guess how they would perform going up against Northeastern and UNC-Wilmington this week, you would have thought that the Dragons had no shot at a win.
But that would have counted out Damion Lee. The junior strung two amazing games together as the Dragons beat both the Huskies and Seahawks and now own a three-game winning streak in the league.
Lee started with 33 points on 9-for-16 shooting against Northeastern. He made three 3-pointers and was a perfect 12-for-12 from the line. He also had four rebounds and three assists as Drexel won 65-60.
But that was just a warm-up act.
On Saturday, Lee scored 32 points to go with 13 rebounds, three assists and a block in an 85-76 win over UNCW. He shot 10-for-14 from the floor and 10-for-11 from the line.
That is why Damion Lee is our Mid-Major Madness Player of the Week. Lee also took home CAA Player of the Week honors for his feats this week.
On the freshman front, our award goes to Indiana State's Brenton Scott. The newcomer started his week with 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists, in an 89-78 loss to Evansville. He followed that with 13 points, five rebounds, three steals and five assists in a 64-58 win over Bradley. Scott led the team in scoring in both games.
For the season, Scott is averaging 11.8 points and 3.8 boards for the Sycamores. He was named Missouri Valley Conference player of the week.
