Penn Coach Jerome Allen Out at End of Season

According to multiple outlets, Penn will not retain head coach Jerome Allen at the end of the season. Allen was 58-88 as head coach entering Saturday's game against Cornell.

Penn was Allen's first head coaching job, and his first two seasons seemed to show promise. The Quakers were 20-13 in his second season, and finished second in the Ivy at 11-3 behind seniors Zack Rosen and Tyler Bernardini.

After that season though, Allen failed to rebuild quickly. The Quakers slipped to 5th, 7th and now last place in the next three seasons.

Allen was a Penn alum, who helped lead the Quakers to three straight Ivy League crowns from 1993-5, all coming with perfect 14-0 records. He was Ivy League Player of the Year twice, as a sophomore and junior.

He was hired with the hope that he would re-establish the identity of Penn basketball that was formed under Fran Dunphy. Glen Miller, who coached Penn between Dunphy and Allen was just 54-67 in his four seasons.
