Dick Hunsaker quietly guided the transition of Utah Valley from junior college to full Division member, and its first postseason berth in 2014 in the NIT. He will step away from the program following the end of this season.
The move was reported by KSL's Sean Walker on Saturday night.
Hunsaker was 96-90 with Utah Valley in Division 1, including a team best 20-12 last season that included a regular season WAC championship. He was previously head coach at Ball State, and led the Cardinals to NCAA Tournament twice, including a Sweet 16 run in 1990.
He took over for Rick Majerus partway through the 2000-1 season and helped Utah to an 18-12 mark and a 10-4 finish in the Mountain West.
"It has been a privilege to coach so many outstanding young men and have them continue to include me in their lives has been extremely gratifying," Hunsaker said. "I thank them for their positive influence on me and my family."
The Wolverines were just 11-18 this season and 5-9 in the WAC. The school will begin its search for a new coach at the end of the season.
