The Citadel has decided not to renew head coach Chuck Driesell's contract and will move on from the fifth year head coach. Driesell went 42-113 as the head coach of the Bulldogs and is actually coming off his best season ever there at 11-19 and a 6-12 mark in the Southern Conference, including an upset of Wofford.
The Charleston, South Carolina based school's season came to close Friday losing 73-56 to Furman in the Southern Conference Tournament in Asheville, North Carolina. Driesell was formerly an assistant at James Madison under his dad Lefty, as well as Georgetown and Maryland.
The small military school has not had a winning season since 2009 when now Tulane head coach Ed Conroy lead them to a 20-13 record. The Bulldogs have never been to the NCAA Tournament and have not won a conference championship since 1927. They are the longest standing Southern Conference member joining the conference with Furman in 1936.
