They actually did it. A poised Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders squad went onto a neutral court in St. Louis and knocked off a Michigan State Spartans team that was in the final four just a year ago. MTSU didn't fold under pressure. It didn't succumb to the free throw problems that plagued it all year. The Blue Raiders picked up an all-time upset with their 90-81 win.
Each MTSU starter posted double digit scoring totals while four of them had at least 15. Reggie Upshaw Jr. had ALL THE ONIONS and ended the day with 22 points, including clutch basket after clutch basket. Here was the exclamation point.
That was the amazing thing about this. The Raiders just did not wilt under pressure.
MTSU shot 55.9 percent and 11-19 from beyond the arc
The second half efforts of Matt Costello and Bryn Forbes just were not enough. Costello posted a 22-point effort on 9-10 shooting. Forbes came out hot to start the second but netted just 14 points.
We'll get you more on this today. Promise. Thanks for sticking with us for all this shooty hoops coverage.
