Leading Marshall to a 3-0 start in Conference USA play for the first time since 2011-12, James Kelly has been named College Sports Madness CUSA Player of the Week. It is the first such honor for the senior transfer from Miami.
Kelly is averaging 26 points and 13.7 rebounds per game in conference play and leads CUSA with eight double-doubles, three coming in the last three games. Kelly dropped 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in Marshall's 94-76 win over Western Kentucky, had 18 points and a career-high 15 boards in only 20 minutes of action in a 90-67 win over FAU and finished off the week with a 33 point and 15 board performance in the Herd's 99-81 romp of FIU.
In only his first season with the Herd, Kelly is averaging a team-high 18.9 points and 10 rebounds per outing. Kelly turned in a career-high 38 points in Marshall's 90-82 win over Wyoming in the Global Sports Classic. Kelly has scored double-figures in all 16 games for the Herd and has gone for over 20 points in five outings.
