It's a new season in the CAA and it's a mix of familiar and fresh, with teams such as Northeastern and William & Mary looking to stay on top, while Charleston and Elon look to make moves to the forefront.
10 games filled the schedule on Thursday and Saturday, completing the first "weekend" of play in the Colonial.
Charleston 65, James Madison 62 (12/31)
Hofstra 90, Delaware 80 (12/31)
The CAA's preseason favorite, Hofstra, downed Delaware on their home court thanks to five players scoring in double-figures. Preseason CAA Player of the Year Juan'ya Green posted a double-double of 19 points and 11 assists, while Ameen Tanksley added 16 points. Hofstra led by just three at the half, before multiple scoring spurts gave the Pride some breathing room.
Towson 76, William & Mary 69 (12/31)
The Tigers of Towson got an impressive road victory at William & Mary on New Year's Eve. The Tribe led by 12 in the first half, but Towson closed the gap to five by the half. In the second, Towson used a 13-0 run to gain control and held on for the win. Mike Morsell scored 18 for the Tigers.
James Madison 73, Delaware 63 (1/2)
The Dukes, the preseason CAA number two, recovered from their loss to Charleston by beating Delaware on the road. JMU was in control for most of the afternoon, although the Blue Hens closed the gap in the second half. Jackson Kent recorded his first career double-double with a game-high 19 points and 10 boards for JMU.
Elon 83, Drexel 79 (1/2)
The Elon Phoenix held off a Drexel rally to win their home opener of CAA play. Elon held a 14-point lead in the second half until Drexel went on a 18-8 run to close the deficit to four with 19 seconds remaining, but the burst proved to come a little too late. Tanner Samson led the way for Elon, finishing with 19 points and seven rebounds.
Northeastern 65, UNCW 63 (1/2)
Northeastern used a game winning layup from Jeremy Miller with 0.8 remaining to beat UNCW in Wilmington on Saturday night. The game was tight throughout, and UNCW's Chris Flemmings tied the score at 63 with 30 seconds left, before Miller's heroics gave the Huskies a 2-0 start in the CAA.
