Earlier this week, Jon Rothstein of Today’s U released his list of the top 20 impact transfers heading into the 2016-17 college basketball season. It’s an intriguing group of players that should play big roles in how this season unfolds.

The mid-major conferences found themselves well represented on the list with five players making the cut. This clearly speaks to what fans should expect out of the mid-major teams heading into this season.

Here’s a full look at the mid-major players listed below.

Mid-Major Players On Today’s U Impact Transfers list:

  • Josh Cunningham (Dayton)
  • Montaque Gill-Caesar (San Diego State)
  • B.J. Johnson (La Salle)
  • Jordan Mathews (Gonzaga)
  • Nigel Williams-Goss (Gonzaga)

Considering the hype that some of these players got before transferring, it’s not surprising to see any of them listed here, especially Mathews and Williams-Goss, who should be key players on a top 15 Gonzaga team. All five are really talented players who should be able to make a huge impact on their respective teams.

One addition that was interesting to see was B.J. Johnson, who is joining the La Salle Explorers this season. He struggled to get playing time during his stint at Syracuse and will now be joining a La Salle team coming off a 9-22 season. He will have his work cut out if he is actually going to be one of the top 20 most impactful transfers.

While there are certainly many other players who could have been worthwhile choices for this list, to see five mid-major players make the cut is pretty impressive. Despite a record number of transfers occurring, some of the top mid-major teams have still been able to find some talent on the transfer market.

One interesting note is that this could add a little extra spice to the already great showdown between Gonzaga and San Diego State this year. Fans will get to see three of the nation’s best transfers and it should be exciting to see who comes out on top.
