Morehead State basketball coach Sean Woods has been charged with misdemeanor battery in Indiana after allegedly striking one of his players.
Woods was suspended on Nov. 22 as Morehead State investigated an incident that happened following a game against Evansville.
WKYT, in Evansville Indiana, reported Tuesday that Woods is being charged with misdemeanor battery.
“According to court documents, Malik Maitland told police that Woods backhanded him in the chest during halftime, causing pain.
Soufiyane Diakte told police Woods shoved him twice during the game – once during a timeout and and once in the locker room.”
The players told a campus police officer that the head coach had assaulted them during the game. The officer contacted police in Evansville.
Back in 2012, during a loss to Kentucky, Woods was seen driving Devon Atkinson, a senior guard, to tears as he berated him on the bench. The school investigated the incident and Woods was suspended one game for his actions.
Woods is due in court on Feb. 9.
