The Bulldogs are 1-7, and most recently lost an overtime home game to Fresno State as a part of the MWC/MVC Challenge. They are a week removed from letting a 15-point halftime lead slip away in a loss at DePaul.
The former Utah head coach was 32-69 in his three plus seasons in Des Moines, with 15 of those wins coming in his first year. The Bulldogs finished 6-12 in the MVC his first two seasons, before falling to 2-16 last year.
The school announced that he’ll be replaced by assistant Jeff Rutter on an interim basis. Rutter was an assistant at UNI and Iowa State before joining Giacoletti’s staff in 2013-14.
The Bulldogs - who are still in search of their first Div. 1 win - play Jackson State at home on Dec. 10.
