Iona extends Tim Cluess' contract to 2021

The Gaels don't want to lose Tim Cluess and showed their commitment today.

The Iona Gaels have extended Tim Cluess' contract after he led the Gaels to their six straight 20-plus win season and got them to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in six years.

Cluess' name perpetually comes up with high-profile openings in the Northeast and that was no different this year with the Rutgers opening.  His new contact extends to the 2020-21 season.

Athletics Director Rick Cole Jr made the following statement:

"Tim Cluess continues to lead the program the right way and his success in the MAAC and the New York Metropolitan Area speaks for itself. Coach Cluess' commitment to Iona athletics' mission of building champions both on and off the court is remarkable. I'm excited to work with him as he positions Iona College and our student-athletes for success."

Cluess also commented in a release from the school:

"Once again I thank the Iona College community, especially our alumni, for their support of our program, myself and my family. Thank you also for the support from President Nyre, Rick Cole and our administration. I am elated to be a part of the Gael Nation and look forward to building continued success for Iona College and Iona men's basketball."

Iona will lose the core of this year's team in A.J. English, Isaiah Williams, and Aaron Rountree III but the Gaels have plenty of new and returning talent on the roster.
