Marvin Menzies named head coach at UNLV

UNLV circles back around on their runner-up to hire Marvin Menzies away from New Mexico State.

A big blow came to the WAC and New Mexico State yesterday as Chris Beard's wake finally ended and UNLV hired Marvin Menzies.

Menzies finishes his career at New Mexico State with a 198-111 mark.  He lead the Aggies to five NCAA Tournament appearances, the NIT this past year, and three WAC regular season titles.  He did a spectacular job recruiting at Las Cruces despite a watered down and shaky conference.

Prior to coming to New Mexico State, Menzies was an assistant at Louisville, UNLV, USC, San Diego State, and Sacramento State. The Los Angeles native and UCLA grad also coached at Santa Monica Community College for several years.

Menzies was originally passed over by the Rebels as they selected Little Rock's Chris Beard to run their program.  Beard quickly bolted Sin City though when Tubby Smith left a vacancy at Texas Tech, where Beard has deep roots to the region.
