Stephen F. Austin senior forward C.J Williams has announced he will not be able to play this season due to heart problem that was discovered during a recent test.
The 6’7 Williams was a key contributor off the bench last season, averaging 9.7 minutes per game and playing in 30 games for the Lumberjacks. He scored a career-high eight points in a win over Lamar in January and helped Stephen F. Austin to a first-round upset of 3 seed West Virginia in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. He finished with five rebounds, a block and one point in 15 minutes of action in the Lumberjacks’ win.
Williams made the announcement through his Twitter account:
For those who didn't know , I won't be on the court this season because of a heart problem that was found during a heart test a while back &— CJ Williams (@viiivlance) September 29, 2016
Stephen F. Austin has made three straight appearances in the NCAA tournament heading into this season going 89-13 overall during that time frame.
It is not clear if or when Williams will be cleared to play next season, though eligibility should not be an issue because he could be granted a medical redshirt.
