It was some week.
Eight of our top 13 teams from last week lost, including Oakland, which lost twice. The most obvious result of this turmoil was Illinois State jumping from No. 11 to No. 6, behind a huge win over Wichita State in Missouri Valley play. The Red Birds are the only team still unbeaten in the MVC.
But with so much movement in the top half of our power rankings, there were bound to be ramifications throughout. New Mexico State and Monmouth were two more who benefited from others’ miscues, both making significant jumps, while three new teams entered the mix. That includes Northeastern, who comes in at No. 25 despite losing at Towson.
UT Arlington, who lost at Troy, dropped eight spots, though it should be noted that the Mavericks were without Kevin Hervey in that game.
One quick note before we give you the full rankings: we had a new voter join this week, so that may help explain a few of the drastic shifts. Despite some of that movement, we believe the more informed voices we have on here, the better.
