Your Nightly Brutality: Radford knocks off East Carolina

Until conference play starts, brutality can strike at any time.

Last night it reared its beautiful head twice while much of the college basketball world was preoccupied with the Champions Classic. On the season’s sixth day, we were right back at it:

Radford 73 East Carolina 66

Radford led big early on, then used an 11-4 spurt with under four minutes to play to earn a win in Greenville. Ed Polite Jr. came off the bench to score 17 points to lead the 10 Highlander players who entered the scoring column.

The Highlanders led by 14 in the first half as five different players hit threes. But East Carolina clawed back to within seven at the break and finally took the lead on a three from Shawn Williams with just over 10 minutes to play.

The teams went back and forth from there, but a double technical on East Carolina’s Isaac Fleming and Radford’s Donald Hicks seemed to turn the momentum in the Highlanders’ favor. Christian Bradford hit a three a few second later and Radford made its free throws in the final seconds to secure the win.

That’s now two wins this season for the Big South on our BRUTALITY LEADERBOARD!
