The La Salle Explorers came up short against the No. 23 Seton Hall Pirates 87-74, in a charity exhibition game for hurricane relief. The Explorers were led by Amar Stukes with 19 points and three assists.

BJ Johnson had a solid night with 14 points to go along with five rebounds. His real mark was left on the defensive end, holding Seton Hall superstar and possible preseason All-American Angel Delgado to six points.

The Pirates’ athleticism was too much for La Salle, who finished the game with 15 turnovers, 11 of which were steals.

The defensive end still needs to improve, as allowing 87 points to any team should not happen. On the positive side, LaSalle kept itself in the game with precision shots from behind the arc, going 6-11 in the second half.

La Salle kept its own against a nationally ranked team, and it does not count in the loss column. This year’s Explorers looked much improved offensively, especially in the second half. John Giannini’s squad could give some teams in the Atlantic 10 some trouble if they improve on defense.
