In what is shaping up to be a long season in Foggy Bottom, George Washington entered its name into the annals of brutality thanks to a 67-65 loss against MAAC Rider on Monday night.

After a ping-pong first half, it appeared as though the Colonials had put themselves in a winning position when Justin Williams pushed their lead to seven with under 10 minutes to play. But a field goal drought of nearly four minutes let Rider take a lead it wouldn’t relinquish.
Rider rode a balanced offensive attack, featuring four players with at least nine points, led by DePaul transfer Frederick Scott, who notched a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards.
Yuta Watanabe’s 16-point, 13-rebound game was not enough for George Washington to get it done on its home floor. Patrick Steeves poured in 19 for GW in the losing effort as well.
Up next for Rider is a tasty neutral site game against UC Irvine, while George Washington will lick their wounds before a Thursday tilt against Xavier.
