No. 1 Gonzaga (29-1, 17-1) and No. 20 Saint Mary’s (26-3, 16-2) ran away with the WCC this season. Both teams spent the entire regular season ranked in the AP Top 25, and it was a foregone conclusion they would grab the top two seeds in the WCC Tournament.
Most of the remaining seeds, however, weren’t decided until this past weekend.
BYU (21-10, 12-6) clinched the No. 3 seed on the final day of the regular season. Santa Clara (16-15, 10-8) won the second tiebreaker over San Francisco (20-11, 10-8) to claim the No. 4 seed. The two teams split their regular season series, and both were swept by Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s. San Francisco was swept by BYU, but Santa Clara split its series with the Cougars, which locked San Francisco into the No. 5 spot.
The top six seeds get a bye into the quarterfinals. Teams seven through 10 face off in the opening round Friday at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The action wraps up Tuesday, March 7.
