Mid-Major Madness Power Rankings: Gonzaga stays No. 1 despite loss

And of course we bumped up BYU

NCAA Basketball: Brigham Young at Gonzaga James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

We made it, friends. We’ve arrived at our final week of Power Rankings, and if you were expecting a dramatic shakeup, I am sorry.

Despite losing to BYU, Gonzaga is still the unanimous No. 1 team.

The Bulldogs are 29-1, they won the West Coast Conference, and swept the team that’s been right behind them all year in Saint Mary’s.

The voters did, however, recognize the Cougars’ achievement. After steadily falling over the last few weeks, BYU jumped back into the polls at 17. Rhode Island enjoyed a similar bump after beating VCU, rising from 17 to 11.

Oh, and how could we forget the Oakland Grizzlies? The team that looked dead in the water just a month ago has won nine straight to capture a share of the Horizon League championship and the 1 seed in the Horizon tournament. Just as Clearly more importantly, Oakland is back in our rankings at No. 23.

Thanks for following along and yelling at us all season. We’ll be back after the Final Four for a Way Too Early edition of the 2017-18 Mid-Major Madness Power Rankings.
