Both Patriot League semifinal games came down to just a few points. Lehigh and Boston University went into double overtime, making for one of the best league games all season. Here’s a rundown of the action:
Lehigh 91, Boston University 88, 2OT
BU hung around in an incredible game because of a monster second half, coming back from a 16-point deficit. But Tim Kempton was too much. Although he was in foul trouble for much of the game, he finished with the game-winning three, 31 points and 13 rebounds. He was helped by Austin Price, who continued a phenomenal tournament with 23 points, including four three’s. Kyle Leufroy was key as well for the Mountain Hawks, especially with some clutch overtime free throws. Credit is also due to BU seniors Justin Alston and Eric Fanning. Alston poured in 20 points, along with eight rebounds, and Fanning had 22 points and 11 rebounds.
Bucknell 70, Navy 65
Though the Midshipmen were up at half and Shawn Anderson pitched in 21 points, their cold performance from behind the arc proved to be costly. Nana Foulland and Zach Thomas’ combined for 40 points to lead the Bison. Bruce Moore was phenomenal at the line for Bucknell when it was needed. However, the Bison will certainly need to wake up and shoot better than 17 percent from three against a hot Lehigh team. Despite winning the league by three games, Bucknell struggled with Lehigh, losing both games to the Mountain Hawks.
