Rhode Island forward Hassan Martin has agreed to play Summer League for the Orlando Magic, he tells Mid-Major Madness.
Martin has the potential to be a strong offensive and defensive asset for the Magic. On the year, he averaged 13.6 points per game and 6.8 rebounds. Beyond being named A-10 Defensive Player of the Year, he led the A-10 in blocks per game for four years straight. He also is the school’s most efficient player ever, posting a 59.4 percent field goal percentage.
Martin played four years for the Rams and was key in leading URI to an NCAA Tournament win this year. In their first round win against Creighton, he pitched in 12 points and eight rebounds.
Finally, teammates have called Martin a natural leader, both on and off the court. We’ll see if the Dean’s List student can flourish at Summer League and eventually earn a roster spot with the Magic.
