The beginning of my transition to covering the same game I just moved on from.

What is up, Mid Major Madness!

Evan Bradds here, reporting live from Jamestown, Ohio!

If you don’t know much about me, I recently graduated from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. So yes, I did play for the legend himself, Rick Byrd, and yes, he is as good a coach as anyone in the country.

Recently, however, I tore my ACL while pursuing my professional basketball career, and now I am sidelined for around 6-8 more months. It will be an interesting journey, but I am excited to attack my rehab and get back to normal. I haven’t lost the urge to play basketball, so hopefully in the future I will get a chance to pursue that dream, but for now, I am on the shelf and taking some much-needed time off.

So what am I doing here?

Good question. Answer: I am excited to announce that I will be joining the Mid-Major Madness staff to cover college basketball for the coming months. As a fan of this wonderful website during my time at Belmont, I can honestly say that I am thrilled to be a part of this team, and I am really looking forward to covering mid-majors across the country.

Obviously I’m a little biased toward the mids, but I truly think that this level of basketball is some of the best in the country, and it doesn’t get the coverage that it deserves. Playing within the mid-major ranks for four years, I have seen the ups and downs of what it is all about. I’ve played against many great teams and many of those legendary coaches we all know and love, and now I’m excited that I will be able to be on the other side of the court covering these games.

I’ve always thought that covering basketball could be something that I would like to pursue in the future, but I never would have guessed that the chance would come this soon.

When I was approached to possibly write for this website, I had no idea if I would be good at this or even if anyone would want to listen to what I have to say. I’m a recent college graduate with no experience and have never written for anything other than my high school morning news segment. I thought about it for all of five minutes and realized that it would be an opportunity to do something new and cover the sport that I have had a passion for my entire life.

The Ohio Valley Conference is where I have spent the past four years, so for now, I guess you could expect to hear a few things on the OVC. The rest of it is still TBD. To pass the time, I plan on going to plenty of basketball games and will have a good amount of mid-major teams to follow in the Ohio area. Maybe I’ll even have a few updates on how close I am to getting back to my athletic (kidding) self again and finally playing some basketball.

Like I said earlier, I am super excited to be here and excited to be a part of the Mid-Major Madness team. Hopefully I will add some sort of value to this website and maybe give a little insider info into what it’s like being a mid major basketball player. I want to thank Russ, our site manager, for giving me a chance to write and be a part of this team, and I’m looking forward to getting started.

Now if only basketball season could hurry up and get here!
