Silver Sword 2018: It’s time to pick some winners

Think you can pick all the November tournaments? Prove it.

NCAA Basketball: Maui Invitational-Wichita State at Notre Dame Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

With the excitement of college basketball’s opening night in the rearview mirror, we can now turn our attention to the next big event on the calendar: Feast Week. And for the fourth year in a row, I’ve made it into a game for every fan to enjoy.

That’s right: The Silver Sword has returned.

Never played before? That’s fine! Let me explain how it works:

Using this link (or the form embedded below), pick the winners of every November MTE. You’ll see a point value next to each team. That is how many points you will earn if you correctly pick that team to win the tournament. Values are given in order of teams’ preseason KenPom ratings, with only a few exceptions. So you have a choice: You can play the favorites, which are more likely to yield points, but the values will be smaller. Or, you can take some risks and go for the big win. But remember: If you pick wrong, you get nothing.

Now the question I’m sure you’re asking yourself: What do I get if I win?

I’m so glad you asked.

For the second year in a row, vintage college basketball apparel site 19nine.com will be giving prizes to the top three finishers. In order to ensure you get what you want, all prizes will be given in store credit in the following amounts:

First place: $100
Second place: $75
Third place: $50

Disclaimer: This is a contest that I have run annually on my own since before I began working with Mid-Major Madness. It is in no way affiliated with the site or SB Nation as a whole. I’m just sharing it here because it’s fun and idk you will probably like it.

One more thing: The game is much more fun if we get a ton of people playing it. Last year we had almost 500 entires and I’d love to top that this year. So please share it with your friends and on social media. Maybe get #SilverSword2018 tattooed to your forehead, I don’t know.

Oh, and one more “one more thing:” Every year a bunch of people put in fake names/email addresses in the form. You can go ahead and do that, but I’ll have no way of contacting you if you win. So you won’t get any prizes.

That’s it. Have fun!
