The Other Top 25: Old Dominion comes roaring back

Conference USA has disappointed, but the Monarchs are on a roll.

One guarantee from college basketball’s non-conference season is that it’s sure to give us some upsets. And typically, those upsets mean we get to see some fun jumps in The Other Top 25.

Old Dominion came into the season ranked No. 23, but quickly fell out after stumbling to a 2-3 start. The Monarchs have not lost since.

Their win over VCU in late November raised some eyebrows and now they are back in The Other Top 25, fresh off an upset win over Syracuse at the Carrier Dome.

Sophomore Xavier Green has turned in back-to-back double-digit scoring performances and is shooting 43 percent from three for a team that’s strength lies on the defensive end. In fact, Old Dominion has not allowed an opponent to reach 70 points yet this season.

Penn is another newcomer that jumped into the poll because of an upset. The Quakers beat Big 5 rival Villanova at the Palestra last week and also own a win over Miami.

The other newcomer is the team you’ve all (like, two of you, really) have been waiting to see: Murray State. The Racers had been knocking at the door and finally broke through thanks to a blowout win over a solid Southern Illinois team.

Take a look at the full rankings below:
