NCAA Tournament First Round: Jon Elmore leads Marshall to an upset over Wichita State

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-First Round-Marshall vs Wichita State Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

I considered just dropping a bunch of videos of Jon Elmore being ridiculous in here.

But I suppose you should have some context first: Marshall defeated Wichita State in a wild game Friday in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, 81-75. Jon Elmore scored 27 (Twenty-seven! Vingt-sept!) points as one of four Marshall players in double-figures. Conner Frankamp had 27 himself for the Shockers, which was extremely annoying.

Elmore and Frankamp exchanged blows all game, from Elmore knocking down long threes to Frankamp just making us really, really upset.

The Thundering Herd made it clear from the start that they would not be intimidated by the favored Shockers. In fact, they led for almost the entire first half, going up by seven 4:18 before intermission. Wichita State then closed the period on an 11-1 run to take the lead into the locker room.

Marshall was undeterred.

A 9-2 run midway through the second half put Marshall back on top as the teams battled back-and-forth until the final minute.

Ultimately, it was more than just Elmore being awesome that won it for the Thundering Herd. They flat-out out-played Wichita State down the stretch, forcing turnovers and not giving the Shockers anything easy in the final minutes.

Now, fans really can’t go wrong in San Diego. They’re either going to get a showdown between the only two Division I teams in West Virginia in the Second Round if the Mountaineers take down Murray State, or they’re going to get an all-mid-major game between Marshall and Murray State.

This rocks. OK now here’s some dunks:
