St. Peter’s will hire Seton Hall associate head coach Shaheen Holloway as its next head coach, according to multiple reports. Jerry Carino of the Asbury Park Press reports that his introductory press conference will take place Thursday at noon.
St. Peter’s, out of the MAAC, needed to scramble to find a replacement after former head coach John Dunne left Jersey City to become head coach at conference rival Marist.
Holloway leaves Seton Hall, where he played for the Pirates from 1996-00, and had a successful career as a former McDonald’s All-American. Holloway’s coaching career began at the high school level as an assistant at Bloomfield Tech. After a brief return to his alma mater in an administrative role, Holloway took an assistant coaching job at Iona under then-head coach Kevin Willard. Holloway then followed Willard back to Seton Hall.
Building a winning program at St. Peter’s will be a challenge, however athletic director Brian Felt seems to have hired the best option available. Holloway has proven to be a great player developer, working specifically with the point guards at Seton Hall. He also brings with him a wide range of high school and AAU connections throughout the New York metropolitan area, which should be beneficial on the recruiting front.
