My 21st birthday was yesterday.
Hopefully I don’t need to spell out for you why that’s such a special occasion, especially for a college student like myself. On the whole, it was a fantastic day full of great times spent with family and friends.
But you don’t care about any of that.
You’re here for one thing and one thing only: to know how Belmont Bruins head coach Rick Byrd made my birthday wish come true.
Yesterday, as my birthday was coming to a close, I sent out a tweet to Belmont’s men’s basketball team, asking them for something special:
I turned 21 today. All I want for my birthday is a video of Rick Byrd wishing me a happy birthday. @BelmontMBB, can you make this happen?— Cam Newton (@morrisoncrying) April 30, 2018
I drifted off to sleep without a response.
Oftentimes, I periodically wake up throughout the morning as various pings and buzzes produced by my phone stir me. I usually give my notifications a quick glance before drifting back to sleep.
Today, as I looked over to check on one of them, I was so overjoyed that I couldn’t possibly go back to bed.
Considering that Coach Byrd's birthday is today, I think we can make that happen. https://t.co/Mfzf6HJPoM— Belmont Basketball (@BelmontMBB) April 30, 2018
I couldn’t believe it. A birthday wish of mine was seriously that close to coming true.
I was ecstatic. Exuberant. Exultant. Jubilant.
Soon enough, in my very email inbox, I had a video from the legendary Coach Byrd himself, wishing ME a happy birthday.
Now, if you get all the way to the end of the video, you’ll notice that Coach Byrd asks for me to send him a birthday video! After all, his birthday is today, only one day after mine.
Since letting Coach Byrd down would be a massive failure, I was sure to pass one along:
Belmont’s head coach made my wish come true in Disney-esque fashion. I cannot imagine a cooler message to receive for my birthday, so I must thank Belmont Athletics for that.
Now I just don’t know how I’ll ever have a cooler birthday than this. The only thing I can think of next is a personalized message from Oliver Purnell himself stating that he has never been fired.
