The Liberty Flames will move from the Big South to the ASUN in all sports except for football, field hockey, and swimming & diving, a source has confirmed to Mid-Major Madness.

Blog A Sea of Red initially reported the news on Wednesday.

The move will be made official at a press conference Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. It will stream on ESPN3.

Liberty replaces USC Upstate, which will leave the ASUN to join the Big South. With North Alabama transitioning to Division I and joining the ASUN, the conference will have nine members for men’s basketball moving forward.

The Big South, meanwhile, will welcome the Spartans and Hampton to bring their total to 11 men’s basketball schools.

Liberty is coming off a 22-15 season in which it reached the final of the Big South Tournament and advanced to the semifinals of the CIT. The team was loaded with underclassmen and should be ready to make an immediate impact in its new conference.
