McCarty will be on administrative leave pending an investigation into alleged violations of Evansville’s Title IX policy, per the statement. Generally, Title IX is a Federal law that prohibits sexual discrimination and harassment in education. More information on Title IX can be found here.
McCarty is in his second year as head coach at Evansville. The Aces wrapped up their non-conference season at 9-4, with an overtime win over Murray State in their most recent game (Dec. 21). They reached national acclaim early in the season by knocking off Kentucky in Rupp Arena on Nov. 12.
McCarty went 11-21 last season, his first with the program. The Evansville native has served as an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics (2013-18), Indiana Pacers (2010-11) and Louisville Cardinals (2007-10).
Per the statement, assistant Bennie Seltzer will take over as interim head coach. Seltzer is in his first year on the Evansville staff, and was head coach at Samford from 2012-14, going 24-41 (15-19) overall.
