It took a long week full of stress and lots of sweat, but Belmont is in the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins earned an at-large bid and will be headed to Dayton where they’ll face Temple in a play-in game to receive a No. 11 seed. The winner will be sent to Jacksonville to play No. 6 seed Maryland.
The Bruins won the regular season OVC title, but were bounced in the conference tournament at the hands of Ja Morant and Murray State. This year was Belmont’s ninth straight season with 20 or more wins, and it’s Belmont’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2015.
With their ability to score, Belmont will be a dangerous team for both Temple and beyond. Few teams in the country can shoot it like the Bruins, and Rick Byrd has proven himself to be one of the best offensive minds in the business. A opening matchup between Rick Byrd and Fran Dunphy should be a treat for all involved.
