NCAA Basketball: Belmont at Vanderbilt Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Even if you’ve been paying attention to college basketball this season at the most minimal level imaginable, there’s a 95% chance you’ve heard the name “Ja Morant.” And odds are that if you’ve heard his name, you’ve seen his dunks and his ever-improving draft stock.

However, despite all the hype, Murray State is the 2 seed in this year’s OVC Tournament. They’ve earned a piece of the regular season title, with the Belmont Bruins maintaining the other share. Yet, the Bruins have earned the 1 seed on account of their win over the Racers earlier in the season.

The importance of earning one of the top two seeds in this tournament is massive, as both teams getting them are awarded a double bye.

There has been clear separation all season long between the conference’s top four teams and the rest of the field, leading many to believe that the OVC Tournament title could be clinched by any of Belmont, Murray State, Jacksonville State, or Austin Peay. No matter how it shakes out, there’s no denying that a significant amount of talent will be excluded from this year’s NCAA Tournament.
