The Other Top 25: Clarity edition

FULL CLARITY means Western Kentucky is up and UC Irvine is down.

NCAA Basketball: Wisconsin at Western Kentucky Steve Roberts-USA TODAY Sports

With the NBA Draft just a couple weeks away, we finally have a (sort of) clear idea of what the best rosters outside of the major seven conferences will look like. There may be a couple more transfers here and there, or offseason injuries, or whatever, but this is pretty much where we expect to be come November.

It’s good news for Western Kentucky and BYU fans. The Hilltoppers’ Charles Bassey and Cougars’ Yoeli Childs, both presumed to be gone, announced their returns to campus, shaking up our rankings. WKU rose seven spots, all the way up to 13, while BYU went up five spots to 16. The Cougars are still the third-best team in the West Coast Conference, according to our rankings, but Childs’ return gives the WCC a legitimate crack at three NCAA Tournament bids.

Vermont and Harvard each moved up a spot as well. The Crimson got Bryce Aiken back, while the Catamounts completed their team with the addition of Alabama grad transfer Daniel Giddens. He gives Vermont the last piece it really needed — a strong interior presence.

Not every team was as fortunate. Last time we updated these we were, perhaps foolishly, still holding out hope that Max Hazzard would return to UC Irvine. Hazzard is now an Arizona Wildcat, and so UC Irvine dropped a couple spots. Not much, however, as resident Big West guru Kyle Cajero is still convinced that the Anteaters will be among the mid-major elite.

Depending on what happens over the next couple months, we might get you one more update before THE OFFICIAL PRESEASON POLL. But for now, here’s The Other Top 25:
