College basketball is back, and following an explosive first week to start the season, we’ve got some very exciting battles on the horizon. As we head into the weekend, let’s take a look at some of the top mid-major matchups to catch over the next few days.
Friday’s Contests
Detroit Mercy vs. Boston College - @ 1 p.m. ET, ESPN+
2021-22 Horizon League Player of the Year Antoine Davis looks to pick up where he left off after dropping 28 points on Tuesday.
Delaware vs. Air Force - @ 5 p.m. ET
2021-22 CAA Rookie of the Year Jyare Davis put up 20 points to open the season as the Blue Hens now travel to face a solid Falcons squad.
Toledo vs. UAB - @ 5 p.m. ET
2021-22 Conference USA Player of the Year Jordan “Jelly” Walker looks set for a contested battle with Boise State transfer Rayj Davis.
Louisiana vs. Harvard - @ 6 p.m. ET, ESPN+
Kicking off the Asheville Championship, we’ve got Harvard’s Chris Ledlum going against Louisiana’s Jordan Brown, a former top-100 prospect.
No. 3 Houston vs. St. Joseph’s - @ 6 p.m. ET, CBS Sports Network
Tough way to start the season for St. Joe’s as they open the Veterans Classic against the nation's No. 3 ranked squad in Houston.
FAU vs. Ole Miss - @ 7 p.m. ET, ESPN+
A very strong FAU team has a chance to take down the power-5 Rebels, who struggled against Alcorn State to start the year.
Iona vs. Hofstra - @ 7 p.m. ET, FloSports
A matchup between possibly New York’s best teams as Rick Pitino and Speedy Claxton do battle.
No. 16 Villanova vs. Temple - @ 7 p.m. ET, ESPNU
This is already the second Big-5 contest of this young season, and Villanova is only favored over the Owls by 5.5 points.
Princeton vs. Navy - @ 8:30 p.m. ET, CBS Sports Network
2021-22 Ivy League Player of the Year Tosan Evbuomwan will have to figure out a way through a veteran Navy side.
Eastern Washington vs. Yale - @ 9:30 p.m. ET
We’re getting close to our first taste of Midnight Madness as the Eagles and Bulldogs open the Outrigger Rainbow Classic in Hawaii.
BYU vs. No. 19 San Diego State - @ 10:30 p.m. ET, Mountain West Network
Two West Coast mid-major powerhouses collide as the Cougars and the Aztecs faceoff after both started their seasons with wins.
Mississippi Valley State vs. Hawai’i - @ 12 a.m. ET
Our real first taste of Midnight Madness to start the season!
Saturday’s Slate
Saint Peter’s vs. Seton Hall - @ 12 p.m. ET, FS2
The Peacocks travel to the Prudential Center to meet up with the coach who took them to the Elite 8 in Shaheen Holloway.
James Madison vs. Buffalo - @ 1 p.m. ET
Buffalo native Takal Molson has returned from injury and will travel to his hometown for a matchup with former NJCAA standout Yazid Powell.
Wagner vs. La Salle - @ 3 p.m. ET
After upsetting Temple to open the season, the Seahawks are out for more Big 5 blood.
Bellarmine vs. Morehead State - @ 8 p.m. ET
The Knights will get a chance to run their unique offense against a tournament team from two seasons ago in the Eagles.
New Mexico State vs. UTEP - @ 9 p.m. ET
An all-around talented and defensive UTEP team will have to figure out a way to cope with the high-scoring offense of New Mexico State and star forward Issa Muhammad.
Sunday Showdowns
Pacific vs. North Dakota State - @ 2 p.m. ET
Jordan Ivy-Curry will look to keep his run of good form after a 28-point performance to start off the Tigers season, and he’ll have to do it against North Dakota native Boden Skunberg.
Oklahoma State vs. Oakland - @ 3 p.m. ET, ESPN+
When these two met just a season ago it was Greg Kampe’s squad took down the power-5 Cowboys. Can he make it twice in a row?
Towson vs. Penn - @ 4 p.m. ET
One of the CAA’s top squads against one of the Ivy League’s toughest teams in what should be a back-and-forth battle.
Yale vs. Mississippi Valley State - @ 7:30 p.m. ET
Day 2 of the Outrigger Rainbow Classic in Hawaii.
Vermont vs. Cal Fullerton - @ 8 p.m. ET, ESPN+
Two highly competitive mid-major squads from completely opposite sides of the country face off in California.
Eastern Washington vs. Hawaii - @ 10 p.m. ET
So close to some more Midnight Madness but on a Sunday the 10 p.m. slot is late enough to close out Day 2 in Honolulu.
