Jared Grasso waved at the crowd as he walked off the court at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse and right into the top 10 of the Mid-Major Madness Other Top 25.

His Bulldogs knocked off Syracuse 73-72 Saturday in a chippy game that featured seven ejections. After a foul in the first half, Orange guard Judah Mintz slapped Doug Edert, who as a star of the NCAA Tournament with Saint Peter’s last season. Edert responded, which led to the benches clearing.

As for the game, Sherif Gross-Bullock secured the Bryant victory with a runner in the lane with 0.8 seconds remaining. Those were two of his 15 points. The Bulldogs led by 11 at halftime.

The victory was the program’s second ever over a Power-5 opponent and improved this year’s team’s record to 5-1. Bryant’s other win came in 2012 against Boston College.

San Francisco and UNLV also saw big jumps in the rankings.

The Dons won the Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City by defeating Northern Iowa and Wichita State. They jumped 10 spots to No. 8 in the ranking.

USF pulled off a 15-point second half comeback in the victory over Northern Iowa last Monday. It used a 13-2 run to tie the game with four and a half minutes left. The next day, the script was almost reversed. The Dons withstood a late 14-3 run by Wichita State to remain perfect on the season.

This season marked the second straight year in which the Dons won their first six games and claimed a Thanksgiving week tournament title.

However, San Francisco dropped its first contest of the season with a nine-point loss at Davidson.

UNLV improved to 7-0 on the season. The Runnin’ Rebels jumped to No. 11 after previously being tied for 21st. They have victories over Dayton and Minnesota on their resume.

The Rebels won the SoCal Challenge to begin last week. In the championship game against the Golden Gophers, they led by as many as 22 en route to a nine-point win.
