For the week of Nov. 28 - Dec. 4, Mid-Major Madness has selected Northwestern State guard DeMarcus Sharp as the Mid-Major Player of the Week with the Missouri State transfer leading the Demons to back-to-back wins within the week.

Sharp, who’s averaging 16.7 PPG, 4 RPG and 4.1 APG to start the season, has posted seven consecutive games with double-digit points. In the Demons’ 64-63 upset of No. 24 TCU, Sharp contributed 19 points, seven assists and five rebounds.

However, this week past week the Charleston, Mo., native caught fire for the Demons on Dec. 1 with a matchup at Stephen F. Austin in which he managed 34 points and seven assists to earn a 102-96 win over the Lumberjacks.

Against an undefeated Southern Miss team, Sharp produced another 30+ point performance putting up 32 points, six rebounds and five assists. His night was highlighted by hitting a game-winning buzzer-beater to hand the Golden Eagles their first loss of the season with an 84-82 final.

Averaging 33 points, four rebounds and six assists on the week, Sharp currently has Northwestern State atop the Southland at 7-2 while winning both the Southland’s Men’s Player of the Week and earning a spot on Sunday’s SportsCenter Top-10 for his last-second shot.

With Baylor and Texas A&M coming up on Northwestern State’s schedule, Sharp and the Demons should be battle-tested heading into this season’s Southland Conference play.

Under first-year head coach Corey Gipson, who also came over from Missouri State, this Demons team has the potential to return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2013 thanks to Sharp’s consistent double-digit performances.

Dwayne Cohill (Youngstown State) - The Dayton transfer and 2021-22 All-Horizon League selection put up 21 points, three rebounds and three assists in a loss to Northern Kentucky before bouncing back with 43 points and four rebounds to defeat Wright State 88-77.

Sam Sessoms (Coppin State) - After winning MMM POTW to open the season, the former AEC Rookie of the Year had 22 points, five rebounds and seven assists against UMBC before ending the week with 35 points in a win over Loyola.
