The Big Sky title is up for grabs. Needing one win this week, Sacramento State let its first-ever conference championship slip through its hands, finished off by a last-second runner from Northern Arizona's Kris Yanku.
Aaseem Dixon led NAU with 18 points on 3-of-5 shooting from three. Sac State led by six at halftime, but a Dixon three with 12 minutes left put the Lumberjacks up by seven. The Hornets answered with an 8-0 run to take a one-point lead, and the battle stayed tight the rest of the way.
Ako Kaluna scored four straight for NAU to set up Yanku's winner.
The win ties NAU with Sacramento State for third place in conference standings and gives Montana the inside track to the title and hosting the conference tournament. If Montana beats Montana State tonight (the 11th-place team), it will host.
If the Griz are upset by Montana State, it opens the door for Eastern Washington to claim the crown given the Eagles beat Weber State. Meanwhile, Weber State is in a battle for the final spot in the conference tournament with Portland State and Southern Utah, who play each other.
Stay tuned to Mid Major Madness tonight, where I should have updates from Ogden regarding seeding and tiebreakers as the games finish.
