Garnder-Webb, Longwood Score Upset Wins

The Big South tamed the Clemson Tigers for the second time this week when Gardner-Webb took them down Friday. Longwood also pulled off a solid win against the SoCon for the conference.

For the second Friday in a row a Big South team took down a power conference team and for the second game in a row Clemson fell to a Big South squad. The conference as a whole is 20-11 in non-conference play thus far and ranked collectively twelfth in the RPI.

Gardner-Webb Downs Clemson 72-70

No one probably respects the Big South more than Clemson coach Brad Brownell. Just days after falling to Winthrop at home, his Tigers fell once again to a Big South school. Gardner-Webb took home a 72-70 first round win in the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands. Brownell can't be happy at the way this one ended though as freshman Donte Grantham called a timeout in the final six seconds when the Tigers did not have any. The gaffe allowed Jarvis Davis to nail two late free throws for the two point win.

Tyler Strange had another big night and his first double-double of the year with 18 points and 10 assists. Tyrell Nelson added 12 points and 6 boards while Jerome Hill, Jarvis Davis, and Harold McBride all had 10 points of their own. The win gives the Bulldogs the day off and they'll play Seton Hall in the semifinals tomorrow at 7 PM on CBS Sports Network. Gardner-Webb will then face either Old Dominion or Illinois State on Monday.

Longwood Grabs Overtime Victory

Basically any Division I for the Longwood Lancers in the first three games was a bonus since the Lancers were playing without star point guard Quincy Taylor. The Lancers capitalized yesterday beating UNC Greensboro 81-79 in overtime in the Eastern Michigan Showcase Tournament. For the second game in a row Darrion Allen set a career high with 22 points and nailed the game winning three late in overtime. Tulane transfer Lotanna Nwobo also had his first career double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Longwood will get Quincy Taylor back today when the Lancers take on Youngstown State in Game 2 of the tournament. The Lancers will take on host Eastern Michigan on Sunday.

Long Weekend for PC?

It could be a really long weekend for Presbyterian in Ruston, Louisiana. The Blue Hose fell to American last night 63-38 with Jordan Downing providing nearly half the offense last night with 18 points. It won't get any easier today as the Hose take on Morehead State and then play host Louisiana Tech on Sunday. PC is now just averaging 41 points per game against Division I opponents this year.
