Will Old Dominion Assistant Jim Corrigan Get the Permanent Job?

Is Jim Corrigan the next man in line for the Old Dominion job? He certainly seems qualified to take the helm.

With the news that Blaine Taylor will be out after almost 12 seasons leading the way at Old Dominion, speculation has turned to who will follow? The leading candidate seems to be Jim Corrigan who has been an assistant coach with the Monarchs for now his 19th season.

Corrigan played college basketball at Duke, where he walked onto the team, and helped them in multiple postseason appearances -- and yes, this is before there was a Coach K at the helm.

He has been consistently named one of the top assistant coaches in the game, including by Fox Sports, and Collegeinsider.com. And let's not forget that little snippet of tenure: he outdates Taylor in terms of time on the Monarchs coaching staff.

That continuity could be crucial heading into Conference USA next season, not only in terms of recruiting, but think about the players on the team that should be sticking around. You don't want to move up in league stature and then trip as you walk across the threshold.

Most believe he will at least get the interim tag applied to him while the school sorts things out. But at least several in the media believe that he may be the right man for the job, no matter what comes back in the search.

Not that you want the guy that the media wants, but it is one opinion.
