Charlotte Hires Hornets' Mark Price as Next Head Coach

The Charlotte 49ers will look to a former NBA All-Start to lead their team into the future.

The Charlotte 49ers moved quickly with their coaching search after Alan Major and the university mutually parted ways after a series of health complications for the fifth year head coach. The 49ers are set to hire former NBA All-Star and current Charlotte Hornets assistant Mark Price according to multiple sources.

Price, a Georgia Tech product, spent 12 years in the NBA playing for the Cavaliers, Bullets, Warriors, and Magic. He was a four time all-star with the Cavs, was the NBA's three point champion three times, and has his number twenty-five jersey retired in Cleveland.

Since his playing career ended in 1998 Price has spent a career climbing the coaching ladder. He started as an assistant coach at Duluth High School before spending a year as an assistant for his alma mater. After a year at Georgia Tech he gained some head coaching experience at Whitfield Academy and with the South Dragons of the Australian League. Price has been assistant for the Nuggets, Hawks, Warriors, Magic, and Bobcats/Hornets since his stint down under.

Charlotte is looking to make it back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005 and recreate some of the solid teams Bobby Lutz instilled in the Queen City. The 49ers went 14-18 this past year and have had losing seasons three of their past five years.
