Old Dominion does away with Tennessee Tech in the opening round of Vegas 16

The efforts of Trey Freeman and Aaron Bacote led ODU to a Vegas 16 opening round win.

Old Dominion had no interest in letting its season come to a close, especially after a more than two-week layoff. The Monarchs second half dominance left Tennessee Tech befuddled. ODU outscored the Golden Eagles 43-29  in the second half and emerged victorious by a score of 75-59.

TTU led by a small margin early in the second half, but a 27-7 run quickly amended that. ODU's defense was a the key, with the Monarchs holding the Eagles in-check for several minutes while it ran away with the contest. TTU jumped out to an early lead but played ODU tough down to the end of the half. The 32-30 deficit was a 35-34 lead before the aforementioned run.

Per usual Trey Freeman took shots in high volume and led the way for the Monarchs with 18 points on 15 shots. Aaron Bacote made an assortment of baskets and finished with 16. Zoran Talley added an extra 14.

Torrance Rowe netted 22 in a desperate attempt to save TTU's season, and his collegiate career, but to no avail. The Golden Eagles finished 19-12. Not too shabby coming off the heels of a 5-win season.

ODU can expect to play the winner of Northern Illinois vs. UC Santa Barbara.
