Horizon League Midseason Review, Second Half Preview

Horizon League hits the halfway mark this week. I take a look back at the first half of the season, as well as preview the second half of the year.

As the Horizon League hits its halfway point in the conference season this week, here are a few things to take notice of, and what to look forward to in the upcoming weeks.

Top Dogs

Green Bay Phoenix (17-4, 6-1): They picked up their sixth conference win this past Friday defeating one of the best in the league Valparaiso (51-50). The Phoenix are led by reigning conference player of the year Keifer Sykes who continues to awe all Horizon League fans with his explosive style of play.

Valparaiso Crusaders (18-4, 5-2): Valpo is coming off a tough road loss at Green Bay, but still remains as one of the top dogs in the conference. The Crusaders have lost two games this season both on the road, one in overtime and the other by just one point.

Cleveland State Vikings (12-9, 5-1): The Vikings head to play Oakland Monday night, who has already upset Green Bay and Valpo earlier this season. The Vikings overall record might catch some readers by surprise, but the tough out of conference games, including on the road at Louisville and Virginia, have prepared them for conference play.

Dark Horse

Oakland Golden Grizzlies (8-12, 3-2): Just like Cleveland State, Oakland benefited greatly from playing a ridiculous non-conference schedule, including five straight road games against power conferences. Oakland has already upset Green Bay and Valparaiso, and look to gain another big win Monday night when they host Cleveland State.
