Heading into tonight's match up, the average fan was probably expecting a high scoring dual amongst two of the conference's best players Keifer Sykes and JT Yoho, however sometimes the headline we expect to come out of the game with doesn't happen.
That was the case tonight in an ugly conference game full of turnovers and foul trouble by Wright State (9-7, 1-1). The Phoenix (12-3,1-0) were able to take advantage of the Raider's mistakes and blow away Wright State in the second half and win their first conference game of the season (79-55).
Green Bay was led in scoring by star player Keifer Sykes (17.2 ppg) who scored only 5 points in the first half, but managed to heat up in the second half finishing the game with 28, giving him a solid start to his campaign to defend his Horizon League Player of the Year award.
Jordan Fouse (7.3 ppg) had himself a full stat line finishing with 16 points, 15 rebounds, and 9 assists just one assist short of his first career triple-double.
JT Yoho (17.0) started off slow for the Raiders but managed to finish the game with 13 points.
Wright State was able to stay close to the preseason favorite Phoenix, down only 7 at halftime (34-27) but they werent able to stay out of foul trouble or knock down needed shots in the second half, shooting only 31.9 percent on the game.
This was Green Bays seventh home win of the season, where they still remain undefeated.
Green Bay heads to Milwaukee on Friday to play the Panthers, and the Raiders travel to Youngstown State to play the Penguins.
