Coaching Carousel: Ray McCallum fired at Detroit

The eight year head coach is out after a 16-15 season.

Another veteran head coach bit the dust in the Horizon League yesterday as the Detroit Titans fired Ray McCallum after eight seasons.  McCallum was 130-132 at the helm and 66-72 in Horizon League play.  He did lead Detroit to the NCAA Tournament in 2012 with his son Ray McCallum Jr. leading the way.

Detroit athletic director, Robert Vowels, released the following statement:

"After a careful and long review of the entire men's basketball program, I determined it was necessary to have a change in leadership.  I would like to thank coach McCallum for his eight years of service at the University and for all of his efforts."

Prior to coming to Detroit McCallum was the head coach at Ball State and Houston.

McCallum is the third Horizon League coach to be let go this offseason joining Billy Donlon (Wright State) and Rob Jeter (Milwaukee). The conference will certainly have a new look next season.
