Heath Schroyer leaves UT Martin for North Carolina State

The man who turned around UT Martin is now turning his back on the Skyhawks.

For weeks rumors have circulated that Joe Dooley was going to leave Florida Gulf Coast to take an assistant coaching spot at North Carolina State, Dooley looks to be staying and instead it will be UT Martin's head man Heath Schroyer taking the seat next to Mark Gottfried in Raleigh.

UT Martin was Schroyer's third Division I head coach gig, he previously coached at Portland State and Wyoming, and the first where he posted a winning record. He led the Skyhawks program to their first winning season since 2009 when he went 21-13 his first season at Martin. This past season he also posted 20 win season and a second straight CIT birth for the long-struggling program.

Schroyer was hired by former UT Martin athletic director Julio Freire, as the two worked together at UNLV. Similar to Schroyer, Freire also left a lead role at UT Martin for a supporting role at an ACC school when he left a few weeks ago to become the deputy athletics director for external affairs at Pitt.
