When your team beats a Pac-12 squad for the third time in six years, it is a special event. And it certainly took Arizona State coach Bobby Hurley by surprise, even though Sacramento State returned the core of its rotation from a team that went 21-12 last season.
For his part in the big win by the Hornets, and his big numbers against Seattle on Sunday, Marcus Graves has been named our Mid-Major Madness Player of the Week.
During Friday night's upset, Graves scored 20 points on 8-for-15 shooting, including 2-for-6 from 3-point range. He added five rebounds, five assists and a steal.
In the 77-65 win over Seattle, Graves was 7-for-15 from the floor including three 3-pointers, and finished with 24 points. He again grabbed five rebounds and dished five assists, with two steals.
This from a player who last season averaged just 1.2 points in a little more than five minutes on the floor as a freshman.
Other players considered: Sam Jones, Penn; Austin Arians, Milwaukee.
