College basketball AP Poll: Gonzaga, Wichita State land in preseason top 10

The Bulldogs and Shockers stand in for all the teams outside of the major conferences.

The preseason AP Poll mimicked the coaches poll as there was no consensus on the preseason top team. North Carolina scored 35 of the 65 first place votes to take the top spot in the poll.

Kentucky, Maryland, Kansas, and Virginia all scored at least a single first place vote.

Gonzaga begins the season at No. 9 in the poll. They are followed closely by Wichita State at No. 10. The Bulldogs and Shockers were the only teams outside of the power conferences to make the poll.

A number of other teams received at least a mention on the ballots. Rhode Island, Dayton, BYU, Valparaiso, Old Dominion, Central Michigan, UC-Irvine, Iona and Yale all picked up at least a single vote.
