Mid-Major Madness Player of the Week: Shawn Long, Louisiana Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns

With two dominating double-doubles, especially on the boards, Shawn Long has picked up the Mid-Major Madness Player of the Week.

If you had forgotten about Shawn Long, we could probably forgive you. After all, you would have expected that he had bolted for the NBA by now, given his size, and the fact that his running mate Elfrid Payton had left town.

But Long is still pounding away in Lafayette, and as a result, the Ragin' Cajuns remain a difficult stop for any team in the Sun Belt.

Long certainly exerted himself this past week as Louisiana Lafayette moved to 3-3 in conference.

He began the week with a 23-point performance against Georgia Southern on Thursday. Long did most of his damage inside where he went 9-for-12 and then gathered 17 rebounds, including six on the offensive end. He then packed the rest of the scoring line with an assist, three steals and two blocks.

Long then came back Saturday with 23 points again in a win over Georgia State. This time it was 18 rebounds with eight on the offensive end. That came with two assists and two more blocks to give him 25 swats on the year.

It was his 11th double-double of the season and his fifth in a row.

For his impressive performances, especially on the offensive boards, Shawn Long is our Mid-Major Madness Player of the Week.

Also considered: Victor Sanders, Idaho; Jack Gibbs, Davidson; AJ English, Iona; Max Landis, IPFW; Stephen Croone, Furman; Beau Beech, North Florida; Anthony Livingston, Arkansas State; Tra-Deon Hollins, Nebraska-Omaha.
